GREEN CDT will be hosting an open event in the Spring giving you the chance to meet with key academics and students on the programme.

Applicants should have, or expect to obtain, a UK undergraduate honours degree or international equivalent, or a first degree with an additional master's degree or international equivalent.

Applications open in November. We do not specify a formal deadline for submitting an application to the CDT, however we encourage applicants to apply as early as possible. Typically all available places are filled by the end of March.

If your application is successful you will be invited to attend an interview where you will have the opportunity to meet the team, learn more about the training programme and undergo a formal interview with academic supervisors.

Funding and eligibility

Fully funded places are available to UK and EU nationals resident in the UK for more than 3 years. A small number of funded places are also available to EU nationals not currently resident in the UK.

International students are welcome to apply if they receive external scholarships, or are on a self-funded basis.

For exceptionally academically strong international students with proven research potential (eg published papers or evidence of significant contribution to research projects) the CDT may be able to assist with applications to Manchester scholarships such as:

  • China Scholarship Council and The University of Manchester's Joint Scholarship Programme for PhD study
  • President's Doctoral Scholar Award
  • FSE Dean's scholarships

The CDT may also be able to give provisional offers to be used in national scholarship applications.
